Question on the type R's

Okay so I am seeing two "different" type R's when looking at the 10 inch series. There is the Alpine SWR-1043D and then the Alpine SWR-1042D, I'm assuming that the 1043D is just a new version just going by looks, but does anyone know?

Also as a side question what do you guys think of the Sony XM-ZZR3301or Pioneer GM-D8500M to power one of these 10 inch type R's?

Alright cool thats what I was expecting, should I just go with the newer one?
I have no experience with the new version but the old one was insane for the price and the new one is supposedly upgraded, haven't heard anything bad about them so i say go for it....

Okay thank you :) I'm thinking of just building my own, anyone got any tips for doing this i.e. screws, glue, etc, basically just looking for some advice to prevent some uh ohs. I have looked at several diff sites on building these things so the only trouble that i think i would have is with cutting out the circular portion for the sub.

I built a box for my type r (1222d). I used 2 inch screws and titebond wood glue. I think I was able to do it with only 2 bar clamps and my box is very solid. As for the hole for the subwoofer, I used a jigsaw and cut it slightly smaller than what the sub called for, then used a power sander to smooth it out and make it just large enough for the sub. I'm so glad I built my own cause it was fun, plus I know the quality is wayyy better than prefab or an overpriced custom box at a shop.

You want to use titebond 2 glue. It is the glue that will hold the box together not the screws. The screws are just so the glue can set and do not provide the real clamping force.

When you cut yours out was it a little crooked at all, if so does it even matter? And if you have a 12 inch type r sub dont you cut the hole at like 10 13/16'' of an inch in diameter, and then the "screw ring set thingy" around the sub sits over the board?
