Question on Rms output

i have a Jbl GTO600.1II amp it puts out 424W Rms @ 4ohms, right now im splitting that to 12inch infinties 12.1 perfects. there rms handeling is 375W. max 1400W.. im thinking on taking out one of my subs and just using the amp to run 1 sub, will i ruin my sub by pushing 424W Rms to it?? but doesnt it only get that much wattage if my system is cranked? very confused

the perfect can handle that amp by itself, but you could run both on it down to 2ohm too (I'm assuming the perfects are single voice coil 4ohm)

yea there both single 4ohm, , yea the amp is 2ohm stable puts out like 530W i think. hmm another question,...... i dont really understand subwoofer sensitivity, i might be selling the 12.1perfects and getting some pioneer champs 12inch. the infinty sensitivty is 96Db the pioneer is 89Db?? what affect does this have?? sorry for nub questions

if its a dual box dont take the one sub out and cover the hole too much airspace more than likely or dont leave the one sub not powered in the box

king ranch, yes i have a dual box right now, but im going to be removing it due to no trunk space lol, and im going to be putting the single 12 in most likly a sealed box.... definelty wasnt gonna just take one sub out and leave one in, good lookin out though..

since your 12s are at a 4 ohm load, you won't get as much power so just run both of them to your amp at 4 ohms and if its not enough power for you get a 600 or 800 watt rms amp. I have the same problem with my type r's. I only have a 500 rms watt amp but my subs are 1000 rms. You just got to deal with it until you get a better amp which will cost hella money. I hate it, but thats how it is.

endofdays, i fully understand wat your saying, problem is i want to remove one subwooofer from the picture, and run just 1 subwoofer in a sealed box, and i need to know if my sub will be okay. sub 350rms, amp 424rms both @ 4oahms so far i got one reply saying it will be fine.

anyone have info on subwoofer sensitivty?? is higher better or no?? anyone ever use a pioneer champion 12 inch??

oh, well yeah, it will be ok. Its better to overpower your woofer a little bit but not too much. If you have a level knob on your amp just turn it to about 80 percent or so.

Wow....

The sub can handle 375w of a continuous sine wave. That is what the RMS rating is telling you. Music is neither continuous nor a pure sine wave. An amp rated for 425ish and set just below clipping with a sine wave will only average out to around 50-100w with music. The sub can handle a lot larger amp that what it is rated for provided you are only playing real music. Stuff with really loud droning bass brings the average power output up a good bit but still not to full RMS.

Bottom line, you sub will be fine.
