Question on Port Area & Box Size

Ok, i've heard that when building a ported box that a larger box will give much louder bass than a smaller box. I also heard that a larger port area will give louder bass.

Is there any truth to this?

Now my next question, likely very over-asked already: If I want to put 2 Kicker L7 12's in a ported box, what is the best mix of Loudness and SQ for box size/port area?

So increasing volume will enclosure louder over the entire range, or just at the tuned frequency only, and the rest will stay the same?

Another thing, how much is too much port area? I've heard figures like around 150" of port area on an 11.3 cu. ft. box tuned to 35Hz that's running 2 Kicker L7 12's... is that stupid, or good?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Is port area the area of the hole for the port itself? Like say a 4" diameter port would have a 12.56 sq. inch opening, whereas a 6" port would have 28.26sq inch? Or does port area refer to the volume of the actual port?
