Question on HDMI

I Cannot agree with you guys more. I was hoping these are the responses that would be in here and not "Go buy the monster!".

Basically yes, all of you guys are correct. The HDMI cables are digital signals, which means it's either 1 or 0, on or off. The only time you will need a higher quality HDMI cable is with lengths of over 15-25 feet most of the time.

Me and my cousin (an electrical engineer) decided to spend the money and test 10 different brand HDMI cables out in various lengths, I'm pretty sure it was 6 feet (standard and most common), 15 feet, and then 25-50 feet because not all cables came in the same length at that point.

Bottom line, there was no difference (noticeable at least) between any of the 10 different HDMI cables in 6 feet or 15 feet lengths, once we got up higher the quality did get lost a bit but still it was minimal.

Some of the brands we tested were :

Monoprice $3.97 cables

Monster Platinum Series Cables (Or something like this, I remember it was $160 for a 6 foot cable)

Phillips HDMI cables (Wal-mart was where we purchased them)

Then just other random cables we found on ebay and other A/V stores around us and whatnot.

***Cliffnotes :

Don't spend top dollar on short HDMI cables, if it's less than 15 feet, monoprice is the answer.

a newsstation did a report on this like 5-6 months ago

they tested monster , acoustic research, phillips and some other cheap brands

the machine that they used to test could tell but the 5 people in the survey could not tell a differance at all

I have a friend that works at best buy. He just used his discount to buy me an hdmi cable. Actually he's bought me three. They were originally 70 something and he got them for 8 dollars. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Ok, So I went out and bought a 46" 1080p tv. And at the store i signed up for direct tv. They guy at the store was trying to pitch this $100 hdmi cable that was supposedly the "best of the best".
Now im not questioning if it is the best of the best or not, because Im sure for 100 bucks its friggin gold plated or something, but I was wondering if the hdmi that the dtv installers give me is really that much of a step down from this one.

Im wondering because well, the guys at American work on commission, and i would like to know if he was just taking me for a ride, or if i will actually notice a significant difference between the 2.
i have some car audio 8 gauge super high density semisynthetic polymerized coated copper enriched power wire, guaranteed to work better then other leading brands 1 gauge power wire.

10 bucks a foot, ill give it to you for 7.50 a foot.
