Question on HDMI

Ok, So I went out and bought a 46" 1080p tv. And at the store i signed up for direct tv. They guy at the store was trying to pitch this $100 hdmi cable that was supposedly the "best of the best".

Now im not questioning if it is the best of the best or not, because Im sure for 100 bucks its friggin gold plated or something, but I was wondering if the hdmi that the dtv installers give me is really that much of a step down from this one.

Im wondering because well, the guys at American work on commission, and i would like to know if he was just taking me for a ride, or if i will actually notice a significant difference between the 2.

You do not need a 100 dollar HDMi cord. I spent way to much for my 37" Westinghouse HDMi cord at Wally world, which was a Philips HDMi and was 40 bucks. When I got my 46" Sony XBR5 LCD, I spent 5 bucks off amazon I believe on some cable2go HDMi cord and work just as good, if not better.

thanks guys.

I was thinking the only way i would ever notice a difference would be with a blue ray player.

but i have no plans on getting one until they stop taking like 15 mins to load the dam discs.

thanks a bunch, gonna go get my 100 smackers back now.

IMO..... its hard to tell unless u have 2 tvs with diff hdmi's next to each other. then someone would have to point out whats so diff. so i stuck with a less expensive one

digital is either on or off

no in between

1 or 0

i have some 2 dollar ebay specials and they work fine

the $100 monster cable is a huge scam

if you dont belive me have fun wasting 50-100 bucks

AS Randy said get cables from monoprice.com

They are cheap and good quality also with digital type cables (optical audio, hdmi, etc) the signal either gets there or it doesnt you dont need a fancy $100 cable, only when it comes to analog cables does the quality of the cables matter

HDMI is digital ... Either the 0s and 1s get there or they don't.

Generally speaking, usually the only difference is the quality of the cable (flexibility, durability, etc.) but it won't make a single bit of difference to the quality of the signal getting to the TV. If you are constantly unplugging and plugging the cable in and/or bending it at acute angles, you may want to consider getting a higher-grade of cable, but outside of that, it won't make a difference.

Also, remember that the sales model for most shops is to sell the main product at or near cost and then make their profit on the accessories and services. Obviously, this means there's going to be a fair amount of markup on that HDMI cable. It doesn't mean it's a rip-off, but it does also mean you can get a similar cable for far less at a place that doesn't have so much markup on that particular item (i.e. Monoprice.com, which only sells cables and doesn't need to pay for a storefront or sales staff).
