Question for Parents with daughters

Got a question for you brought up at work.

Say you were at Wal-Mart and your little girl (say age 4-6) had to use the restroom. How do you handle that? Does she go by herself? At what age does she go by herself? Conversely, what if you have to use the restroom? At what age do you stop taking her in there?

Reason for asking: A lady at work has a husband who is at Wal-Mart and has to use the restroom. He called his wife to figure out what he should do. . I would have went home or something.

At 4-6 she either goes in the men's room with me or waits until we get home. Even when my 13 year old goes in a public place I stand outside the door. I have a 7 year old and a 13 year old.

At what age does she go by herself? I assume this is a "maturity" thing.
When she goes in the men's room, where does she stand?
Each child would be different but for my older one, she was probably 9 or 10 before I would let her go in by herself. If they have to go in with me they stand whereever I am, even if it's in a stall.

I guess it's because I am not a parent, I find it strange to have a 6 year old girl watch you use the restroom. But again, I am sure it is uncomfortable for everyone....but other options aren't better.

Exactly how I'd feel if I had 2 daughters. The world is bad place, especially for young girls left unattended.

I've got a 4yo daughter, and she also either goes with me in the men's room, or waits until we get home, also.

When she is 13, I will, too, probably wait right outside for her.

Factoring in individual maturity, of course, I'd say personally for me, 7-8 would probably be acceptable for her to go in by herself.

Yea, when you're a parent your comfort isn't very important anymore.

I can't stand having my 2 1/2 year-old son watch me use the restroom.

That whole husbands/wives doing whatever while the other brushes their teeth? No effing way if I'm involved. lol

I would trust a girl going in by herself vs. a boy.

But when you say "goes in with you" it just seem strange to my mind. If the girl was really young you could just turn her stroller around, but at 6 or 7...it would be weird, regardless of ***.

my daughter is 6, i go in the womens rest room with her when she has to pee, she goes in the stall and closes the door. I get some funny looks but women can be child molesters too or there could be a guy hiding in there. Not like Im staring at the women going in there and peeing, the stalls have doors on them anyways, not like I want to some some old *****'s, hairy old vag anyways.

Definitely with a 4 year old, thats way too young to risk letting them use it alone or having them wait outside if you go. I don't have kids but I think 10 or so would be the cutoff, but I would still wait outside the women's restroom for them.
