Question about the ticket I just got

Seat belt tickets are incremental here.

1st Offense is $25.

2nd Offense is $50

3rd Offense is $100

Anything beyond that is a flat fee of $300 and is counted as a felony for repeat offenses...

It sounds like he added the seat belt violation to the speeding ticket. Still...that $3XX is still pretty harsh unless you were in a construction or school zone. I know here a seatbelt ticket is $25. Speeding tickets vary because local police have theirs and state troopers have their own. Last one I got was for $185, and I was doing 70 in a 55. Strange thing is that he said he clocked me going 71. I know I was going 85 but I wasn't going to argue LOL On the envelope to send in the money listed the fines for speeding. He should have given you an envelope to send it in. Look on the back and see what the fines actually are.

Yea right--I loved showing up in court for tickets I wrote civilians on base, as do most cops because they receive a minimum of 2 hours overtime. As for the tickets, you might find something on your local pd's website about the infranctions and what the fines are. If not--call the number and verify because those do seem high.

depends on how the cop writes it. i got pulled over doing 71 in a 55, and the cop wrote the ticket for 5 over. had it been written for 15 over it would've been much larger.

I think the ticket for no seatbelt here os $10.00. It is worth $10 to not have to wear it.

This thread makes me so glad not to live in CA. What kind of idiots give a $1k speeding ticket. I would fight that as cruel and unusual punishment. Punishment should fit the crime.

I got pulled over for doing 73 in a 70 got a warning and my car searched.

I used to drive a Cutlass with mirror tint. I didn't have to be breaking the law to have my car searched. Apparently, tinted windows = probable cause.

I have some friends that used to work with a guy who became a cop. They called but he didnt answer tonight, so I'll see tomorrow if he can explain it. If not I guess I'll just have to wait til monday and call that number back and hope to get a real person. I just wanted to know asap so I could get it out of the way.
