will you lose sound quality if you have ps3/360, and a hd-dvr to a TV using hdmi, and you use the optical audio out from the TV to the recever?

Depending on the equipment used...you might not hear a difference. You would lose the capability of lossless audio (should your receiver be able to decode it)

Exactly what it means, no loss in quality usually with respect to CDs, though I have no idea how the whole home theater thing works...maybe 24bit, 192khz?

Run analog then you don't have to worry about if you can decode the new format or not...

Mostly because analog is the true lossless...

But I guess the short coming is in multi-channel outputs. I guess there is a benefit to buying a stand alone player...

i mean in my situation, i just want some decent extra sound, wanting to spend near 800-900 on a reciever/processor, (hopefully all self contained) and speakers

got some DIY on the mind?
