Question about S/N Ratio

Alright I've got a little dilema.....I'm either Deciding on an Orion 1200D or a KX1200.1 for my 15 inch L7's and I'll prolly compete at some point.

The S/N ratio on the Kicker amp is 16 DB's higher.....

My question is is this factor going to affect my DB numbers at all?

I figure If i go with the Orion I can always hook up a nice little line driver....so do u think the line driver could make up for that 16 DB'S??

KX=96 Db

Orion=80Db

If you had both set ups in identicle vehicles you MIGHT be able to hear the difference though I doubt it. Orion amps will take up to 4 volts safely if you want to push beyind that is your equipment to fry.

I have never used kicker for anything so I cannot comment on that.

Ur amp that has 4 volt inputs will not fry if u feed it more.I use a 8v headunit and linedriver/eq on a amp with a input sen of 2.5.My advice to the guy asking the question is to research and get the amp that best suits ur needs.

80 dB s/n is a bit low by today's standards. But to put it into perspective, 80dB means the signal is 10,000 times stronger than the noise. 96 dB is 63,000:1

Can you hear it? Nah.

not really....my amp has suppossed "2.5v" inputs that are getting 8V's from my Eclipse HU and I know of people running them w/ a 16v balanced signal w/ no probs- it just //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif gets cleaner

As far an S/N goes. anything lower than 90dbs is not worth your hard earned money- we're in the 21'st century for God's sake......

yes but itll make it clip to hell...

I love when people kick off with stupid comments.I have ran this setup for over a yr with 0 problems.Max6sp and i both have had no probs with similiar setups.If setup properly u shouldnt see any probs.

Doubtful.......almost every headunit on the market will stay under 2V during normal listening.

That preout voltage is a RMS rating just like watts. Most HU's need to be at 3/4 to full volume before they will hit their rated preout voltage.

the head unit line out is 2v but when i crank it to 40 and move the amp gain after middle it start to distort. is this normal. also the power protection light blinks.
