Question about Optidrive sub

I have a friend who's got a dual 2 ohm 12" Optidrive sub (Highest model). He said he should hit 147 with it. I'm wondering what kind of quality the sub is. I'm looking at getting a 12" XXX and powering it with my brutus 1500. I've put maybe $800 into my system, and plan to build my own enclosure. I'm hoping to be as loud as his setup, which cost him well over $3000. Any input is appreciated!
