Question about internet bandwidth

Should I get a 10Mbps/1.5 d/u for $55? That's what I'm leaning towards. Or splurge for the 18Mbps/1.5 at $65/month (i'd be paying the difference solely)? I'm going to be pretty tight on money, but realistically you think I'll see much of any improvement (generally, not talking about exceptions here)

I do a lot of torrents, as well as online gaming (L4D mainly, TF2, FEAR etc). You think I will see any better of a ping at 18 vs 10?

thanks guys

My speeds are 5-6MBPS so I will download at 500-600 kbps and my upload is 1-2MB so I will upload at 100-200Kbps...You don't acttualy download 5-6megabites per second

You won't see a gaming difference between the too... I use to be gaming at .50MBPS so 50kbps downloads....Now with theses new speeds I can down load 2 movies and game lag free

If you like downloading shit fast go for it. If you don't mind waiting then get the cheaper one. I download all the time so I plan on getting 30Mbps connection next week, (I am moving)

Capitalization is backwards. bits= lower b, bytes=uppercase B. i.e. your internet connection is 6Mb/2Mb, but you see real world download speeds of 600KB and uploads of around 200KB. Not trying to be a dick, but it is good to know.

Holly crap, i just did a test and here's my results:

Download Speed: 17250 kbps (2156.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 489 kbps (61.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Im using Time Warner cable. Upload sucks balls =\

I'm usually around 20/1.5 but cable bogs around this time. I never really go below this though

I was using High speed internet from Shaw but after my 3 months of $20 was up I switched to High speed lite thinking it wouldn't make a difference. Id rather spend the $15 more a month. when im downloading it makes surfing the net impossible.

Just buy an uncapped modem from massmodz and have free internet
And free room and board for the next 6 years!!

*To the OP, just get the cheaper one. You won't see a difference between the two speeds. This is coming from a Comcast engineer.
