Question about Fiberglass

This is probably going to sound like a dumb question, but if you make a fiberglass enclosure will it sound as good/ better then a ported or sealed box? And also i have been looking around at other peoples installs, and it seems when they make a fiberglass box they dont really make it a specific size, So does it matter the size if it is fiberglass?...Thanks Alot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

You make a fiberglass box either ported or sealed ...

Fiberglass is just a different material.

A difference in sound between MDF and fiberglass ... there will be none ... if the fiberglass is thick enough and braced properly.

I have heard both, no major difference but if you havent worked with fiberglass before or dont like to work with it, stick to the MDF!

fiberglass is just used to make a box (yes, boxes NEED to be a specific INTERNAL VOLUME) fit in a tigher space, and\or make it look cool. sometimes its used to brace a MDF box, and some fiberglass boxes are hybrids (like mine) - made with MDF and fiberglass - for strength purposes.

a ported box (in my oppinion) is better than sealed- but it also depends on the driver\application.

ported = louder (sometimes less quality) - lower power handeling, less wattage = more efficient.

sealed = not as loud (but mostly better quality) + better power handeling, and can take more continious power

I have heard of people reinforcing their boxes with fiberglass, but could you show me some pics of the so-called hybrids....?

the bottom piece is made from MDF to ensure strength and speed up the fiberglass by decreasing the area of glassing i had to do, and increasing strength because fiberglass is weaker than MDF in flat areas. also, the port was mounted to this to gain SPL
