I play hard song like dubstep and decaf at 35-36 volume on my HU , Can my sub clip because of the song or im good cause I set it with the smd dd-1 ???

If the recording level of the source is higher than what you used to set the gain, then yes you can clip before your reference volume. Just be aware of that and use your ears to judge if you've got the volume too high.

It's useless at any price. I wouldn't waste my time if it were free.
Would disagree I little. If this paper weight can teach people the gain is not a volume knob. It's priceless

And it gives newbie's a good starting point. But I prefer an O-scope.

But the bad thing with mp3's and so on is how they were rec.

I will set my gain at start of clip but Ill have HU volume down a couple clicks so I can turn up a song that's not loud

For music with db+ use your ear

Right, and CD's have different record levels as well, so you either make it retard proof and leave a lot of potential power on the table (except for your loudest record level material) or you end up planning on turning it up PAST the point where it would clip so that you have that extra if needed, which totally negates any benefit of the former and still leaves it to using your ears and common sense.

I'd say a much sounder investment of 150$ would be a nice rub-and-tug at an Asian massage parlor.

The DD-1 is a great, well thought out, easy to use, quick to use tool. If you don't think it's worth $150 you are hating the name on it. Sorry if you don't like Meade, maybe you should try to influence this hobby like he has. I wish I had his job personally.
