Question about checking blown speakers, amp, or HU

So, my speakers start putting out this awful sound, both of them, at the same time. This leads me to believe that the problem may not be the speakers, but rather the amp or HU. is there a quick easy way, outside of swapping out the HU, amp, or speakers to know which one is blown? My speakers sound blown, but i find it extremely odd that they both started sounding awful at the same time.

^^^^ what would that accomplish.....does the ipod have some kind of better rca preouts or somethin, idk...how would that work????
Well. that would single out the headunit, by plugging in an ipod as apposed to the headunit rca's going to the amp.

ooo, ok....btw does an ipod put out any preout voltaget through the rca's...i really dont understand how that works
Yes, an iPod will put out enough voltage to the Amplifier's low-level input to play. Try this to single out whether or not the HU is the problem. If the sound still is there, try powering the speakers from a different amp, or from the HU, if possible.

If that's not possible, check the speaker's coils with a DMM and see if they read coherently. If the speakers seem fine, it's likely the amp.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

how much gain can you have the amp set at while doing this....or does that really not have anything to do with it?
Start at minimum and go up from there. You're just testing it slightly to see if you hear the same crappy sound, don't need to play it at full tilt.

Keep the mp3 player volume at 1/2 or so to be sure no clipping is incurred from the source, then turn up the gain until you get an audible volume to troubleshoot with.

maybe you shouldnt talk down to other people until you know how to even set an amp you dumb piece of shit
leave the thread before you cause more problems.
This directed towards me? I wasn't attempting to talk down to anybody, so I'm assuming not, but you never really know here on CA.com //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

oh yeah, to "silvercookie", i was never talking down to anybody...i was just curious on playing the mp3 player through amp, so i simply asked a question to get a better understanding of it....which is called "learning" iirc.....and i'm pretty sure that's what the ca.com forums is for (to answer ppl's questions and help other's out, etc...).....not get on here and talk sh!t, to make you feel like a bigger man.....so stfu and gtfo
