Question about amp wattage and subwoofer wattage

box design can play a big part of the power handling capability of subs - generaly a smaller box can allow more power to run to the sub - as the "air spring" effect of a smaller space will control how far in and out the cones will move.. same goes for larger boxes - the air spring effect will be less in a larger box so the same result can be achieved with less power.

subs that max out at 1200w rms value should be pretty good at 600w each in a slightly larger than spec air space box

Just because a sub can handle 1200wrms, doesn't mean you have to supply that much. The problem we see in car audio is when people try to get more out of any particular amp than it is desinged to provide. All of the subs you mentioned offer a sub in the 600 watt range. And you are corrct, you would need two 2ohm dual cone subs for a final 2ohm load. Check out sq's entry level subs, decent price and output. Then figure out how much space you are willing to sacrifice, and go from that.
