question about a 10 farad cap

i think its tsunami, my friend has it, wondering if it would help out any with my powerbass xa-3000d, and i have a kinetik hc2400 as my only battery (starter + running the amp) and the stock 105a alt.

i havent been able to find an alt for my car, only thing i found was EA can re-wind mine for 180a, for 435 fvcking dollars. for that, i expect 250-300 amps. im not paying that for a 180a amp alt, and its not even a new alt, its just rewinding mine! f that!

either way, would a 10 farad cap help any? the voltage drop isnt horrible, but i mean it drops to a lil below 12 sometimes, and id like to be able to play it and not worry about monitoring the voltage as much as i have to now...

A cap will do absolutely nothing for you. It won't make your system use any less power, and it won't stabilize your voltage.

There are about 423998329394 threads about capacitors, read some of them, I don't want to make a 3 page reply explaining why capacitors are useless every day.

Wow... a couple of newbies deem themselves experts cause they've read a few threads of people dissing on caps.

Caps are not totally useless, they are just overrated, and now apparently underrated on this site.

a .5 or one farad cap is basically useless becasue it drains almost instantaneously, but you may notice a slight voltage stabilization with a 10 farad cap.

But once you crank your music it will most definately drain it out and youll be running straight off your charging system again.

If its cheap go for it.. it definately cant hurt.

If its expensive skip it.

Even a huge cap drains almost instantly. Well, maybe in about a second or so for a decent one, but that's still a drop in the bucket for a decently powerful system.

What most people don't understand is that you don't completely drain a cap. The cap is only utilized until it's electrical potential is lower than the battery or alternator, not all the way until it's empty, that means that about 85% of the capacitors stored electricity is never used.

I can't remember the exact numbers, but one time I did the math for a huge batcap...we're talking a large capacitor bank that would dwarf any capacitor you can buy. It was boasting an impressive 8 second discharge time at up to 400 amperes. Now even this beast of a capacitor will drop below battery voltage in just over a second, how are you going to tell me that a single 10 farad cap is going to do anything useful?

Cap's = Nothing BIG 3= Helping your electrical alot read up man on that BIG 3 sticky in this electrical section read up it all . it will save your electrical and help ya alot unlike a stupid cap which won't do Sh*t.

Caps are not the solution to elec probs. keepint that in mind, a system with a cap and without any other changes will perform better with a cap. Of course beefing up your electrical system is the best option.

Just save that money and put it towards something that will be more useful like an alt or another bat.
Agreed:graduate:

But if its like 10 bucks, why pass it up?

...although im sure its not ten buck, and im sure whatever the price is its probly too much:*******:

my friend would lemme have it cheap, ill ask him though

either way, like said above, the only alt i can find for my car is only 180a, and 435 bux, and thats to rebuild mine. never will i spend that much to just have my stock alt re wound, and only 180a at that.
