quality amp for $300 or less?

what about the regulated power supplies(or whatever it is)on the alpine amps that give you the same output regardless of ohm load?
Personally im fine with a D2 woofer because unless you really are going for pure spl. One really good Sub on 2k or less is just fine. So getting a 2k amp on 1ohm is just dandy.

I feel like Keep_hope_alive mentioned something about 2 subs having wave interference or something along those lines. SQ wise.
Those amps are very power hungry. And yes the wave interference is a posinility but no ones trying to compete in sq with 2 type r's or amyone on this forum so no need to even think about that.

Your fine with a d2 because you have a single sub so your at 1 ohm. He wants 2 so to get to 1 ohm he needs d4 or d1s

Thats correct however you did not factor in efficiency. The lower you wire, efficiency goes out the window, they may be pulling the same current but the lower ohm load will be a lot less efficient.
Obviously, efficiency of different amps varies. However, 2 ohm amps wired to 2 ohms and 1 ohm amps wired to 1 ohm have about the same efficiency. The only difference is how they're designed to make power into different ohm loads. If they were more efficient, wouldn't every company be making big 2 ohm amps and everybody run at 2 ohms?

No because it would cause sub manufactures to change to only dual 2's as it would make sub configurations tougher to acheive on a limited scale.

No. One dual 4 or dual 1 sub can be wired to 2 ohms, and lots of people have single sub setups. Also, 4 dual 4 or dual 1 subs can be wired to 2 ohms.

What if someone wanted to run 3 or 2 subs?

It would force them to run series or not run it at all..

Back then it was ok because of single coils.

i went D2's for now, ill probably try d4s in my next set up, now time for amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
