Still doing some research on what to buy for my Skar VVX-12 for this spring. Currently have 400 watts @ 4 ohms. I was looking at the MB Quart onyx series amps and was interested, the 1000 watt model is $160, but the 1500 watt model is only $10 more at $170, with bass knob and all. However, I don't really need anything more than 1000 watts, though I could just get the 1500 over the 1000 and set the gain lower to only push ~1000wrms.

What are some other good amps that will do 1000 watts for somewhere around $200?

Another thing, what are the differences between the cheaper amps (audiopipe, MB quart) compared to the more expensive amps like audioque and such? Do they actually sound different, or is it more of an efficiency thing? I have stock electrical, so efficiency might be kind of important for me.

PPI Phantom P1000. Rated for 1000watts at 1ohm, 600watts at 4ohms. This family of amplifiers has received pretty good reviews.. Price at sonicelectronix around $210 shipped. Boston Acoustics GTA-1000m would be a step up as it can provide 1000watts into 2ohm load.

I woud recommend the AQ750 it can do 1000 at one ohm. However, I don't really know much about the guts of amplifiers, and as far as the differences i can't really help you there

Audiopipe amps are really good. I have the ap-15001D (it's a beast) my friend has the APSM-1200 (it's a smaller but still awesome beast). He was previously using a MTX amp and when he switched to Audiopipe he said there was a world of difference.

there is a recent post for a sale an audiopipe 1500d does 1500 RMS at 1 ohms 950 at 2 650 at 4.

he is asking 125 shipped...maybe get its ten dollars cheaper still //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

hell of an amp for the price and gives you a little room to add a second sub in the future if you wish.

Well, I can't really wire my sub to 2 ohms, it is D2. And I only have one subwoofer

Also, that sundown sae1000 looks like a good deal, but I need a bass knob, and it looks like there isn't a bass knob in that deal

what u need a knob for??? That sae is the best amp listed so far you can expect a good bit more then 1k out of it..
It's cold as **** where I live so I can't play my subwoofer in the morning after my car has been out in the freezing weather all night, so I turn my bass all the way down so i can still listen to music as it warms up

this will put out like 500 at 4. could run it on 4 ohms.
Well, my current amp already does 400 @ 4, so it wouldn't be that big of an upgrade

Oops sorry, when I read the first part of your thread I thought it said you were researching about getting a skar. This amp will do 600 @ 4 as well and if you got a second D2 you would wire it to 2 ohms
