Putting Amps in hidden cargo area...

I have seen this done before. In the back of a Honda Pilot there is a cover that lifts up and there is a cargo storage area back there that would be perfect to put amps in. Now the problem is it is rather air tight and the air flow would not be so great.

I have seen people cut grills out of the top of the cover for the amp to sit under and ventilate...but this would be costy and I don't know how it would turn out.

Anyone have any experience or opinion on doing this? Also anyone have any pictures/build logs of a vehicle that has this done?

Thanks.

Oh yeah here is a quick pic I snapped.

You could uncarpet the piece, then after you mount the amps get a template of where they are on the piece cut it out recarpet then use something like a bar grill from PE or make a grill for a more oem stealth look

i would say take that plastic piece off completley and get a piece of plexi drill small holes through the top of it for the air to circulate then put a light carpeting over it . but just make sure its the same size as the stock piece.

I have a Pilot with a JL 500/1 and a 4 channel Alpine amp in my storage area with no problems. I've done a couple of 6 hour drives and haven't had a problem with the heat. The amps get kinda warm but haven't gone into protect or anything.

Check out hondapilot.org/forums/ There are a bunch of people with amps in that headrest storage area. Some have added 12v fans inline with the amp.

You could also use some MDF and cut out a piece to replace the lid, cut some holes in it and find some carpet to cover it. The two hinges and latch piece could pretty easily be transferred over to a piece of mdf.

Ive got my 20.1 in my little space like that in a 2002 Explorer.......sittin under 6 187 12's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

my friend's brother used to have subs in the spare tire compartment in a 04 accord. i was only about 12 or 13 when he got it so i didn't know a thing about car audio and how it sounded so i couldn't tell you. i just know he had it.
