Punch P2 Advice

I gotta say, im kinda new at this, but i bought to 10" type-Rs and im VERY impressed. They sound clean and there is a whole lot of output. (you wont be winning any SPL stuff i wouldnt imagine :lol) but i have a fare sized car, a lackluster PA amp running them at like 500W RMS, in a sealed, prefabed POS badly sized box, and im still impressed. When i upgrade to my new alpine amp, proper box and 3 10" type-Rs, im told i am going to be blown away. just my $0.02.

HI I think I got scewed but here goes.I gave my dad a extra polk gnx1010 10 in dvc sub.He thought he could run it free air....it blew.So here's the problem,I had the polk warntted(?) but it was no longer avabile.They gave me a 10 in p2 instead. I was planning on building him a box(custom for his ext cab chevy) at 1.75 cube's,it's on the high end of it spec sheet and I was going to use the recomed port size and lenth.Would that be a wast of time on this sub,or would this of some other box make it sound better?
