Hey everyone,

I had an Alfa Romeo 156(105a alt.) with big 3. It had hifonics brx1208d. At 1000rms@1ohm lights dimmed and eventually, alternator died.

Now I have a vw(90a alt) with big 3. The amp is kicker zx1500.(I set to 1200ish rms@2ohm) Loudest songs playing full tilt and voltage drops barely.. Max. drop I saw = 0.2

I know hifonics@1ohm pulls current like crazy and zx1500 is a better amp overall.. but is 1ohm versus 2ohm makes this much difference?

Not for me.

I have a stock 130 amp alt big 3 and ran a reputable 1.2k amp @ 1ohm presenting the same dimming issues as my bc2k @ 2ohms. Not really that big of a difference.

Sax1200 for reference.

Although dimming occurred voltage only dropped from 14.4 to 13.7 full tilt not enough to completely starve an amp imo

Kicker > Hifonics

No issues there. The amp will output depending on the speaker's impedance rating. Are you using a component x-over or is only the tweeter with x-over?
