PS3 question

So i have no clue about this thats why im asking, but WHATS THE BENEFITS/SETBACKS IN INSTALLING A NEW O.S.??

im thinkin about sellin my 60 gb fully backwards compatible ps3 and buying a newer model ps3 but you cant install a new O.S. on the new slim ps3s

It just let's you use the PS3 more like a computer when using the other operating system. You can use to run certain programs. Really is no need for it IMO unless you don't have a computer.

Well I installed Yellow Dog Linux on my ps3 and there's a certain program for it that lets you run ROMS and Emulators, although I haven't myself been able to get it to work, my friend has it setup, its pretty sweet.

any ps3 after update 3.0 is blocked from running different OS.

you can run roms and stuff like stated above, but there is no real reason
