Get a $10 meter and keep it around. Check resistance on any speaker before you install them. This could have blown a different amp that didn't sense low ohms.

i never hooked the mtx up to the kicker sub i bought a whole new system when my last one messed up. I thought i had fixed it but it turns out my L7 is a 4 ohm and when i run it 2 ohm in the box it puts my amp in protect when i got it ran on 1 voice coil it works but doesnt sound great.

 
Get a meter and check the resistance of the sub when wired with both voice coils. If the sub is near 2 ohm final and the amp goes into protect, then the amp might need worked on.
