Proper Wire Sizes

Right now im using 16 gauge remote, power, and GRND. I bought a Lanzar MXA 284, which is 5000w. My subs will pull about 1700W max.

What wiring would be ideal? I ordered 8 gauge, but that wont come in until 1 day after my amp, and i am a very impatient person lol.

Anywho, will 8 gauge be fine? And will running 16 gauge for one day kill me and/or my car? :s

Anyhow, i know 12 gauge is rated for over 1800W in A/C, im not sure how that equates to D/C. the 16 gauge is only temporary since im only pulling 400w

Noway is the system pulling 5k watts. Im using 16 gauge cause the pull is only 400 for now.
No way is the system pulling 5000w because it's a lanzar.

Even at 400w if you ran 16g wire for power and ground it must be glowing. You would be drawing about 40A through you're wire, 8g would be bare minimum.

The minimum I would run for any amp is 4g.

That is wrong. Wire gauge is rated by maximum amps. 12 gauge is 20 amps. to find watts use P=VI So 20A*12V=240W

(I used the max breaker allowed for 12 gauge wire. It might be rated higher. But I am still close.)
