Proper way to mount my mids

I'm still learning all this stuff and have a question. I have a '98 Nissan Frontier and the door speakers are mounted to a plastic adapter that acts as a spacer. I'm installing components and noticed that when I tighten down the speaker to the plastic spacer it wants to slightly deform the speaker frame. This can't be good. How can I prevent this?

Did you get proper speaker sizes for the vehicle?
