Proper Sound Deadening

Does anyone have any pics or advice on how and where to properly sound deaden the trunk? I want to do this, but I'm not really sure where to put the deadener and how much I should be putting on. I'm only pushing one 10" L5 Kicker, but I do get some buzzing. I'm mainly shooting for better SQ and cleaner bass. I'm also going to do my door panels so if you guys have some tips or advice on that it would really help out. Pictures are a real plus.

Also, haven't really decided on a deadener yet. I'm thinking the cheap route and going peal n' seal for the trunk, but maybe something a bit better for the doors. Suggestions on that would be great too. Thanks.

it is not hard at all just follow the instruction that come with it. O an alson u will need a hair dryer. It is used to heat the material and make it sticky and bond to the surface.

SOund deadening can be the sinlge biggest improvment anyone can make in a car.

Tons of great benifits

The average trunk can use about 30-40 sq feet of Damper,

each door can eat up 8-24 sq feet.

run a search on

rammat

fatmat

edead

brown bread

Sungwei, try the peel n' seal. I used perfecto roof and for 99.9 sq feet it was only $95 with tax included. There was no shipping of course since I purchased it at lowes so that saved me $25 or so there too. If you go with edead (thinner than "perfecto roof") you pay for shipping on basically the same, just thinner, product.

I deadened my entire isuzu pickup pup (no sound deadening from the factory, NONE) with perfecto roof and it works really well. At less than $1 per sq ft and 45mm thick it did the job. I can barely hear the noise made by vibrations during down shifting anymore... let alone the rest of the noise I can't even hear now after just two (three in a few spots) layers. I'd reccomend this deadner to anyone.

You're probably concerned about a lot of the common, mistaken myths of these products. One myth is that this stuff has some kind of smell or noxious odor. Well, 100sq feet later and I haven't noticed ANY smell at all. It doesn't even smell on 90 degree days with all the windows rolled up after my truck has been sitting in the sun from 11am to 3pm. A second myth is that it will melt or not stick for very long. I've had no problems with perfecto roof sticking or melting. It stays where I put it even on those 90 degree sunny days on vertical surfaces! The final, most mistaken, myth is this product doesn't work as well as others. Mass loading is mass loading. Some people will argue one deadner is better than another but it all comes down to how much weight you add to a panel which reduces the vibrations. Dollar for dollar you will get more weight out of perfecto roof than most other deadners ordered over the internet. Of course, there's probably someone who will argue weight isn't weight as soon as I post this too... but last time I checked a pound was a pound! However, anything can be argued to the most irrational of extents as well.

Hopefully I've cleared up a few myths for you. Good luck on YOUR decission.

Thanks for the feed back. Yeah I am most likely going to just go to my local Home Depot and pick up cheap deadener. Now do I just do the trunk lid? Or should I do the entire bottom where the spare is held? I mean it's not like I'm rattling the teeth out of my mouth, it's just some buzzing. I'm just looking to clean up the sound. What's the most critical places to hit?

hey everyone,

ive been looking into getting some deadener from a hardware store, but i went into my local lowes AND home depot, and neither of them had any of the peel and seal or anything like it. the guy at lowes even said he hadnt seen that stuff around for a looong time. any suggestions? thanks.

i just called second skin audio today and ordered 2 gallons of spectrum (pain on sound deadner) it cost about 115shipped and should be here in 2 days. from what they said on the phone its about the best liquid sound deadner that you can get. the same stuff lexus puts in their cars.

Is this easier to use than regular stick on deadener? Does it work better? Also, how much is 2 gallons equal to square foot wise assuming you're only using one layer of stick on stuff? Thanks. I may consider it if it's easier but just as effective.

By the way anyone ever use both liquid and then the stick on stuff? Wonder how that'd perform.

Ive got it in my car. It is very easy to use, easier than reagular peel and seal kind. as for sq footage its suposed to be like 40sqft per gallon, but i would estimate atleast 50 sqft you can get out of a gallon. I put 5 layers on my trunk lid 3 everywhere else, and still had aobut 1/8th of a gallon left over. And I have a rather large trunk too.

i just bought 70 sq feet of peel and seal today for 60 bucks...i still have sum of my fatmat left over from my other car and it lost sticky ness after the winter(unused portion)..i think peel and seal would be better due to the fact that u can get more variations of it then fat mat..size wise...for more info on where to get it go here http://www.mfmbp.com/peelseal/ and give them a call to see who carries it in ur location...thats what i did

100 sq ft goes for bout70-80 bucks

70 is about 60 bucks so on so on

i did all 4 doors on my jeep with bout six coats each of spectrum and did about 4 coats in the rear end where i couldnt get the damp pro at and i still had enough in one gallon to do alil touch up here and there...this weekend im gonna do the roof if i got enough*have another ful gallon left*i should be able to put a few coat on it..then ill be ordering more lol
