This is stupid loud - like beyond concert loud. . .

I have been working on these since Christmas. The arrays are based on the ART array but doubled. The ART array has a 16 ohm woofer section, so I doubled it and just built 2 sets of crossovers. The tweeters are wired in series and I built my own crossover for them. The woofer towers are used to add bass from 35 to 100 Hz. All 4 cabinets are 1.5" thick with 2.25" thick baffles. Took 10 sheets of MDF with just a few 4" rips left over. The tube is 24" diameter - 12 cuft tuned to 18 Hz.

So the drivers are:

(4) Vifa DX25TG tweeters

(32) Dayton 5.75" mids

(8) Dayton Series II 12" woofers

(1) Mach5Audio IXL18 subwoofer (in the tube)

The power is:

Carver TFM-55 380 x 2 watts RMS amplifier for the mids and tweeters

(2) Dayton 1000 watt RMS subwoofer amps - one for the 18, one for the (8) 12's

The TV is a 53" LCD.

It is overkill, but there is something to be said for an audio system that can effortlessly reproduce music at loud levels. The clarity is awesome.

Taking my TL to his house next time I go. . .

That line array setup makes my setup look like a my first sony.

why only 2 tweeters per speaker?
More than enough!! They are very bright. The tweeter has a 93.5 dB 2.83V/1m rating, and the woofers are only 88 dB 2.83V/1m.

prolly supposed to be 1 per speaker
The original ART array is only 1, but only 8 mids. Two tweeters on the baffle causes issues, but I tested them before I cut the baffle holes to make sure it was going to be ok. Skip and I both listened, and could not really hear much of an issue until they were about 3" apart. With them butted against each other, there is very little difference in the sound playing music (other than being louder) with both of them playing vs. just one.

Crossover point is 4500 and they have a 4.125" center to center spacing. Like I said, I was concerned, but tested them before I finished them and there does not seem to be much of an issue. I am sure with certain types of music there might be a noticable problem, but they sound great for what they are built for. . .

I'm more concerned about comb filtering issues rather than output. Where are they crossed?
Indeed. I would also be concerned about over stressing the tweeters. You have to figure that even if the mids are 88 dB @ 1W coupling that 16 of them together is going to give you a much higher sensitivity. 100 dB if I did my math right.

But, the two tweeters will give you ~ 96 dB so if you added 2 more tweeters (doubling the drivers) you should get 99 dB.

Also, how close are the tweeters at listening level? They might sound so bright because the beam is right at your head. Did you do anything to compensate for the phase difference in the middle driver to the top & bottom driver?

I was thinking that an array of 5 or 6 would put less stress (and thus lower distortion) for each tweeter and provide better vertical dispersion. It would also balance out the power handling of the system.

But if you don't hear any problems, then it is nothing to worry about.

The system looks pretty badass as it is. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks!!!

The way I see it, the guy I built them for loves the crap out of them, so what anyone else thinks does not really matter. . .
