Professional Install?

Hello all,

I am in dire need of help.

I am looking to upgrade my system in my Nissan Xterra by getting components (ID CTX65CS), a second amp for the components (possibly Sundown 2.100 or PDX 2.150), as well as a new sub and box (Diamond Audio D612D4 and a 1.25 cu box tuned to 33Hz). I also want to install a good amount of sound deadening to take advantage of the CTXs. I already have a sub amp (Alpine MRD-M1005 and it performs beautifully!)

I have never done an install like this on myself hence I am looking into a professional install.

Some research on a few places here in Rochester, NY.

StereoShop

Component install: $120

Amp/Wiring: $130

Sound deadening for two doors (just one layer of dynamat): $120

OR Bring my own dynamat and $60/hour to install it.

Auto Concepts

Amp/Components/Etc: $150 - $200 (depends on labor)

Wiring: $60

Dynamat: $75

But I have to supply all the wiring, dynamat/raamat, etc for Auto Concepts. That would mean:

~$200 for Raamat (since I want my front two doors nicely deadened and a layer or two on my rear doors and trunk door)

~$150 for an amp wiring kit for my components / upgraded wiring to my sub amp.

But is it really worth having a professional install my new system? This seems so expensive it's better off I do it my own (hence this forum //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif) but I have no experience in car audio installation. I am confident that I can follow the tutorials / instructions on this forum but when it comes to taking the doors off and double-checking that I did the job right, I have no experience in this field.

Feedback? I really want to make this system sound great. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just man up and do it yourself. It will be a great learning experience and you'll be that much more satisfied when everything is said and done. But if you don't have the tools, then you have to have someone do it for you.

StereoShop

Component install: $120 $40-50 per set

Amp/Wiring: $130 $75 or so depending on wire

Sound deadening for two doors (just one layer of dynamat): $120 not horrible if its done wellOR

Bring my own dynamat and $60/hour to install it.

Auto Concepts far more reasonable

Wiring: $60

How much sound deadening would I need for a 2005 Nissan Xterra? I plan on doing the front doors (outer and Inner Layer), rear doors (inner layer) and trunk / amp floor (two layers).

I'm hoping to get my box done through Fisher Customs. He did my last box (~1.15 sealed for JL 12W6V2) and it was amazing. Really liked the lightness factor too.

please do it yourself. plenty of people on here willing to help. Unless you have a friend that you trust that works at one of those shops i wouldnt trust anyone else to do it. if anything just let them run the power wire or something. thats really the hardest part, the rest of it is just matching up + and - .....

theres tons of "professional install disaster" threads on here everyday. and when listening to your system it sounds better if you know you did the work! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Man do it your self, and grab one or 2 of your buds to help. Just take your time if you have questions come to ca or any of the many Car audio sites for help, or just look it up on the net. with the extra cash u can buy you and your fiends food and drink while yall work, or buy some more CA equipment, or send me some of that extra cash for my advice..

the wire running is the hardest but it will be well worth doing you self for the experience, it will save u cash in the long run if you decide to upgrade you system. Plus u have a nice sized SUV should be pretty easy

I am in process of installing my system, and installing some sound deadener and it isn't hard, it is time consuming and requires a place to do the work and basic tools...And if this is your only vehicle, then you might have to do it in stages because this stuff takes time...

The box is another story, alot of people make their own, but there is alot more to making a box then cutting wood... alot more skill involved then carpentry...Not saying you couldn't do it, but if you build your box wrong, then you risk ruining your equipment...It is worth the extra 100+ in labor besides the cost of the materials to have someone who knows what they are doing, do it for you...

I say do it yourself, and if you have any questions ask these guys...

when i first got my subs, and amp, it took me forever to do it myself too, but once i did, it was actually alot of fun, like that one guy said, the only hard part is running the power wire, everything else is cake.

besides, if you get a couple of buds, that like this sorta thing, it will be fun.]

Sometimes, i take all my stuff apart, clean it, and make sure everythings good, and then redo it all, but then again, i also have nothing else to do lol
