Problem with system

Ok I just picked up a 96 Cavilier for a work car. Came with JVC KDG140 head unit, 8 gauge amp kit(walmart) Has a 2000 watt Max 1000 watt RMS Insignia 2 channel amp and a pair of 1000 watt max 500 watt RMS Insignia 12s in a Q-logic ported box... The amp is only about a lil under half on gain and everything else is pretty low... It hits really hard with all the adjustments on head unit maxed out to the neg.... I get it turned up around about half way where its hitting nice and clean after a few mins of play it will cut out like amps goes into protect mode. I turn the volume down 1-2 numbers(example from 15 to 14/13) then it works fine....

They had the RCA Jacks ran with the power wire so I moved it to the opposite side of car...

Also have tried other runs of power wire

The subs are Single Voice Coil and they are 4 ohm just like amp is.

The car has new alt new battery ect... No cap but the lights dont dim at all when using system....

The thing I thought was funny. I pulled the amp from the car when it started doing so and put in my Vette on 2 Planet Audio 12s that are DVC 2 ohm and The amp just slammed no problem. I put in my brothers impala with 4 mtx 8000 12s and no problem didnt cut off at all.

I didnt do bad either way picked the whole car up for under $600 with system/carbon fiber tails and its a 2.2 5 speed with header exhaust all kinds of new parts lol....

Just thought Id see if anyone here knew of what it could be.

The guy told me about when I bought car and I was like ok. I mean its still pretty loud before this so Id like to get it on a meter somewhere locally to see what it does for cheap stuff.

I never heard of insignia car audio before this..... Any opinions on this stuff as well....

I have always only really delt with MTX/Kicker/JL/Audiobahn/Audiopipe the bigger name brands locally lol....

insignia is just like pyle, dual, sony....

you're going into protect because you didnt set your gains right, and you're trying to get more power out of that "1000RMS" amp than it can offer.

walmart 8ga wire isnt really 8ga wire. more like 10ga and it wont support the current you need and also the grounding wouldnt be very good. if the amps gains are set the same in the other cars then this would be more than likely the issue.

well its set exactly the same in the other cars. And I also use a test wire and it was 4 gauge from kicker kit I had left over layin here. Just ran it from battery back and it done it. Ill get more info on it today on where exactly it set. I have never had this happen with a amp before. Maybe its because I am used to good names.

Well I didnt tune it lol. It is all where it was at when I bought the car. Sounded good untill started doing that. So Ill check and see if I can fix it today

your over loadn the amp turn the bss boost down and gain up or turn them both down and tun it up were yo want to and then start tunning the amp if it pops off then tun it down very simple with tunnig a stereo and if you never had that happen then you havnt tried alot of brands lol

Its prolly your wire as well. You really need 4awg for 1k. Even if your only getting 800watts from that amp youll want 4awg. Also, turn bass boost off, and set your gains so that way your deck is at 2/3's the way up at full power from the amp. You should be good to go.

I have tried all this and still does it. But Who cares.

And I have had alot of brands just never had this problem with them.... But always had better wire ect... i figured its how the car was wired and the stuff ect..

could it be that the alt isn't putting out enough causing the amp to go into protect? I'm just guessing here but I know that cav's don't have that strong of an alt...

Is the amp 2ohm mono stable? I assume that's how your 2 4ohm SVC subs are wired. Other set ups you tried the amp on probably had a final 4ohm load...

You could wire 1 sub to each channel and see if that works...

Insignia is Best Buy store brand take it to them and have em look at it they will most likely do it free unless your local store are a bunch a dicks. better than pyle and sony by a long ways but not great stuff by any means.
