Problem with my car stereo / Pontiac Vibe 2003 / Sony E71x / Toyota Amplifier 1221619

First off, let me say that I'm very ignorant to the in's and out's of car stereo's, but I'm "somewhat handy". haha

I bought the car and the system worked fine for awhile. A few days ago, it started sounding really bad. It was like all of the body of the sound was ****** out of it. Does that make sense? It's hard to describe.

I checked the connections and the fuses which all seem fine. Any ideas where to start?

I'm a musician, so I understand EQ. That isn't the issue. I've messed around with it for hours.

The whole body of the sound is gone. It sounds like everything is being broadcast out of a transistor radio.

My first thought was that a subwoofer went out, but there isn't one in this car.

Help! I hope it's an easy fix.
