hi, i just put in an in dash dvd player with a 6.5" monitor. im running into a couple problems. its in a 2000 dodge dakota. theres 3 main problems: 1. loud hum, but only when the screen is open. 2. loud pops when i do things like change radio stations, seek, or change cd's. 3. a weird sounding noise that only happens when the car is running. when i give it gas, i can hear the noise pick up and become higher with the higher rpms. its really crazy, i havent ever heard of anything like that before. everything is grounded down well, i changed grounding wires to make sure. please help, any suggestions are appreciated. thanks a lot.

i am having the EXACT same problem you are describing, and i am pretty sure that the battery is the problem, i am going to get a new one and see what happens

or you could try a new battery and tell us what happens?

and lol you are a dj? in provo? i didnt know there are djs up in utah?! wtf? well i just think thats kinda funny! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rotflol.gif.b453361716769b8110ddefc85ff03cd2.gif

haha actually im a dj in seattle, but im moving to utah soon for school. maybe ill be the first down there. and to GXZ, what kind of deck are you running? is it also an in-dash dvd, or just a regular head unit? it sounds like it could be the battery somehow, but im not really sure. the noise is so weird though, its like a high pitched whistle, outer space type noise. and to maniackilla, i do have a lot of the wires pretty close together. my dash is pretty tight so i have the huge wiring harness PLUS the little external amplifier smashed back in there. but it had hooked the whole thing up before i put it in the dash, with everything separated out, and it still made the noise. im sure it can be fixed somehow, just need to figure out how! thanks for all of the help and suggestions.

Check and recheck your ground and power. You are experiencing what’s called "engine noise" which is usually cause by a ground loop.

If you really want to test the HU run a ground and power lead directly from the battery.

no its not the ground, ive tried regrounding my amp three diff times and ive ran a wire from the neg battery post outside the car in the window and to the ground wire from the back of the head unit. and none of this helped.

the reason i think its the battery is my car barely starts (turns over slow) and when i turn on the headlights or hit the brakes, i hear a loud pop from my sub.

and the engine whine comes from the alternator, because the battery is so shot that it cant hold a charge and it cant smooth the flow enough to stop the individual pulses from the alternator. so they end up going to the power wire.

and to further "prove" my point above, when i turn on the head lights or tap the brakes at idle, the engine lugs down real low for a sec.

now tell me if you dont think its the battery?

You are not the author and I never mentioned your name. My comments were directed to the author. In reality It could just be a bad HU, I wasn't saying it couldn't be anything else, 9/10 it's the ground however. Good luck with your battery though! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

Who the f*ck do you think you are. Get your f*cking clunker checked the f*ck out, then come here and talk about what your problems are. You hear a pop in your sub when you hit the brakes. Get a freaking clue!
Ever heard of popping a clutch??
