first time getting metered ever.

what do i need to do to prepare

fully charged batterys

range of hz tones to burp

misc tools ?

metal straping tape to seal off any ?

what are the tricks to achieve maximum spl score ?

try one window up / down half way exetra...

move seats back / fowards / bla bla ?

and most importantly

can a term lab see in the sound wave if its clipped ?

im not all the way setup yet - just sub amp hooked up to rca cord to 3.5mm jack to ipone loaded with tones and sweeps.

if i play a sweep at half power the term lab will pick up my peak - and tell me what hz it was ?

then i know the range of hz im loud in to try burps at full power ?

im not trying to waste this guys whole day babysitting me on a term lab - //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Lots of stuff. First most ppl only care about sealed on dash score. No one cares what ur car does in the kick panel. Lol. But charge batts and run a sweep and find where u peak and then play a song that has your peak and see what u do on music... Or I guess u could burp it but who cares about burps. And no term lab can't see clipped signal. U need OScope for that.

crap i rly have no idea where to set my gain to using stupid i phone and rca jack cable.

at least with my dd m series amps i had the clipping light indicator to let me know when trouble was near.

hope i dont melt some coils lol.

or slinky them

hahaha

meter where ever you want as it's not a sanctioned show. window down or door open is usually loudest, same with mic in the kick. But that isn't true for every vehicle. Being a burban you "should" peak around 41-43Hz.

Do your sweep and use that peak freq as a starting point. Then full tilt burp at that freq then go up or down 1 cycle and see if it's louder, and keep repeating.

Your peak will change with mic placement ( dash versus kick ) and loading ( sealed versus door/window open )

The termlab will not show you a clipped signal , but if you push into a hard clip you will see your score drop on the TL

Set on peak hold it doesn't matter really if you are playing music or a tone , it just catches the highest score @ the sampling rate, if you want something to brag about as far as a music run do something like an 30 sec avg. music run

Try moving the enclosure around if possible once you have your initial score, to see if loading the port or subwoofers differently (moving the enclosure front to back or side to side) helps or hurts your score

Don't be discouraged with your score, a lot of the scores you see on the net are bogus or there was a lot of time and money invested to squeezing out db's here and there that nobody tells you about

Have fun

Clean out the vehicle. Your gym bag, some McDonalds wrappers, empty beer cans, and other crap laying around won't help.

Sweep might give you a starting point to begin testing but you'll still want to test each frequency individually. If you have some time it's best to not test for too long at a go. After 5 or 6 burps you may start losing just from heat or batteries draining down, so you need sort of a fresh start all around to really know what any small change will gain.

Meter sealed at the dash. That's pretty much the standard. If you want to just see the highest number you can put the mic in the port.

Seems legit..

That's the number you share on the forum.
