dmm is worthless for gains i always just listen closely for clipping and have never really blown a sub accidentally. If you pay attention you know when its clipping.

DVC subs ARE made to run on coil or both coils.
1 set for 4ohm

both for 2ohm

red to black and over for 8.

and I understand that the rms is halved if your using one coil but your amplifier is also putting out less but that has no effect on the setup because it cancels itself out, each coild will get 500rms weither ran @ 2ohm or 1 ohm.

I UNDERSTAND THAT. but you gotta think 1000rms on the same driver in the same box will runner hotter than 500, even if each indivudal coil is getting the same load.
