To the output. Most powered subs have a high level input that is designed for that scenario.
There could be a downside. Some OEM amps have pre-set eq curves that protect the cheap OEM sub. Those curves will affect a downstream amp's performance. In that case you may need to use a signal leveler or epicenter to undo those pre-set curves.
