power wire help

this will be my first amp install and i had a question about the power wire. i went out and bought 6 gauge wire thinking that would be plenty thick because a friend told me 8 gauge is a universal (says he does it all the time on installs at his shop). when i got my amp i read through the booklet and it says to use a 4 gauge power wire. btw i'm also installing two 12"s.

my question is, if i use the 6, is it going to affect audio quality? and is it going to melt or spark if i use it instead of the 4 gauge?

any help is appreciated, tia.

whats the model of the amp? if it calls for 4ga use 4g usually. 8 ga is good for around 600to 800w usually unless your installing in a suv or someting huge. the lenght of the wire matters. id use 4 ga. i almost always do. also, where did you buy the 6ga wire? is it true 6ga? alot of these cheep wire kits say 4ga but its more like 8. power wire is not somewhere you want to be cheep

it's a Hifonics Brutus BXi1606D, 1600 watt amp. i'm putting it in a 2004 VW Golf. the 6 gauge wire i picked up at walmart so now i'm guessing it's total crap. so return and spend some more cash?

get 0 gauge while your at it?

if you dont need it then get 2

if you really dont need it then get 4

might as well be prepared for the future. i oringally bought 4... then went down to 2 then again went done to 0. so i wasted like 3 times as much.
