power cap ???

well i still am unsure of the right thing to do. so skip the big 3. cuz i was thinking it was the alt. like u said befor. nor will a battery really do anything. the battery just starts the car and then the all mighty alt takes over. if i was playing music with the car off then a battery and big 3 would be good for me. so lets say ok i need a alt. i dont want like 200 amps what should i get. i have had people help me but as far as saying ok joe this what u should buy. some links ,names of compaines , places to check out thats were i could use some help lead me to the right alt for my car.

 
sorry if im coming of as a ***** who is over thinking the volt drop thing. as this is the only car i do have and me being poor and all and loving music i dont want to kill my alt. where al i need is a new more powerful alt.

 
how can a CHARGED cap make you lose voltage...i'd say if he has nothing else, use it
because the cap can sustain it's voltage for miliseconds at which point the amp will still be driving the woofer, and the alt will have to power the amp as well as charge the cap

 
i understand the the last post about the alt having to do 2 things but do u have any idea as far as the right alt for my car. im not looking for a true ho alt just somthing with a higher rpm at idle . thanks

you could try changing the pulley to a smaller one....if that does not work then go to an alt shop and ask if they have any solutions for you

 
u see there is really no place around me. i do have a guy that has worked on my cars hes good and fair with his prices. he told me in the past if i bring him a alt he wil put it in. but he will not get me a ho alt or do the big 3 for me. cuz he said if it dont work out the way i want it to he dont wana here about it. so if i go to him with a alt lets say 105 amps or so that will fit then im good. thats what he said it will have to fit he wont mod any thing when it comes to my electrical system. i mean how about auto zone. i could ask them if they can tell me the alts they have for my car?

 
i really dont know were. i have checked out a few audio shops they dont do ho alts they allsay the same thing bring one in and we will put it in. my thing is what alt will be good for my car. i will ask around i do understand on lonisland there is alot of car shops i mean alot guys but as far as a shop werei can go in to and say hey can u get me a alt for my audio i have no ****ing idea my man.

 
so thats what i should be calling around for then. at these shops they could check my voltage drop and see what will work best for me. now let me ask u guys this as i am in one of these shops and they wont to sell me a 400 doller alt do i need a ho alt? 150+ amp is that really needed?i have a 1440 watt bass amp 2 channel 200 watt amp. thanks

go with big 3. easy melted cheesy. i up'ed mine to 12 gauge from stock..which was like 2x gauge.

 
im not gona walk in there and be like yea im geitn bad voltage drops cuz im being a d-bag and blasting my music that most people really dont like. but im sure the guys gona want to know why im in his shope asking about 100 + amp alt in a ford escort lol. im sure hes gona hook my car up and go ok theres nothing wrong. then i gota put a bass cd on and **** up his whole day. most people dont want that shit turned up at there shops.

 
well i am strange but i want my car and audio to be right. thanks for your help though. i guess ill have to find out what alt to get on my own. u did help me ill check out some shops and ask around may b the guy that works on my car can tell me of some one. thanks

 
well i have an update to this post. i went to work today and i was asking around about a shop that would be able to help me with my alt. i was talking with one of the mangers hes in charge of the auto dept. he came threw with a number for me. so at lunch today i called the guy i told him i am geting voltaged drops to 12.7 when im coming to a stop or well im stoped. he asked if im running any extra acc. and i said i have 2 amps and its doing this. he laughed and said yea that will do it. he said i shoud not push my alt past its limit. i asked about a smaller pully he said yes that might work but if it dont i will be out of 125 dollers. hes gona charge a hour labor and the price of the pully at cost. he had all my specs and said im better off having a ho alt put in. he said if the belt off and the alt is disconnected i might as well get a ho alt. sorry for the long post. he wants like 425 dollers. its gona be a new alt. 150 amps but it will be great at low rpms and he will do the big 3 he kinda understood how to do it. he was kinda geting mad i was like well what eles can i do. he said i can take that shit out lol. so yeah i gota do the work my self cuz thats a lot of money. and i had walmart check my alt and battery its all good for now.
