Internships is the way to go. Once you get the first one, it is rather easy to get future ones. I reccomend going through the co-op office.
I graduated in August 2006. Earlier that year, I interned for the state legislature and next I began co-oping for my current position. I have been working here ever since. I am getting my MA in economics at night.
how do you like it? getting some decent pay?

What I have learned from an internship I did two years ago (I am a Jr. now) is it doesn't matter what degree you get, as long as you are a half way intelligent person there will be a job somewhere out there that will pay halfway decent and have the opportunity to work up the latter. It was kind of shocking talking to C-level executives, none of whom had a business degree (I am a Finance major), and hearing them downplay the idea of getting a degree that is specific to a profession they are interested in. They basically said, "just get a degree in something. You learn next to nothing in school anyways, once you get out half of what you learned is probably obsolete that once you get to a new job you will be taught everything you need to know."

Anyways, I will be doing another internship this summer (w00t $14/hr) and I highly recommend them. In my opinion, you will gain so much more through experience than sitting in a classroom. Plus, at the end of the day what is separating you from the guy next to you who just graduated? Probably any type of experience you have (i.e. internships). GPA's are way overrated.

Haha, CMU, sorry to say but its a joke of a school.
Wow, way to dis the guy's school .What an a-hole. Wbhat exactly is wrong with CMU? It's accredited right? And what school do you go to? Is it that much better than CMU? I go to the University of Minnesota-Duluth. I like it a lot better than the U of M because of class size and location. Go ahead and tell me the U is better, I'll disagree all the way.

i intern at my dad's economics firm. i was doing more and better work that guys that came in to intern who had their bachelors in economics, and im only a junior in college. there is always a place for intelligent human beings

Don't mind him. Every school besides Michigan Tech or wherever the **** he goes he says is a joke. He even claimed the University of Michigan is a joke.

it took me 3 years after i got my degree to get into the field i went to college in (computer science) but I finally found one and just having the degree on my resume plus the internship really made it shine... so for the past year or so i've been doing alot of computer/technology stuff. If I had a choice I would move from Maine to Georgia in a heartbeat!
