Internships is the way to go. Once you get the first one, it is rather easy to get future ones. I reccomend going through the co-op office.

I graduated in August 2006. Earlier that year, I interned for the state legislature and next I began co-oping for my current position. I have been working here ever since. I am getting my MA in economics at night.
