Have you tried Sam Adams Old Fezziwig Ale? IMO thats a good entry level "christmas" style ale, not too complex or heavy, has hints of cinnamon ginger and orange peel and its pretty readily available as well.

Just went and looked, only Adam's they have in stock is Boston Lager. I passed. They also have something with a shelf tag of "Sam Adam's Seasonal" that's sold out now, that may be what you are talking about. I'll keep a lookout for it.

I instead settled with this:

Sam Adams has a lot of seasonals, it could be Old Fezziwig, Winter Lager or White Christmas. You can't go wrong with any of those.
