positive dimmer wire?

i was wiring my gm wire harness to my alpine wire harness and there is 1 unused wire called

positive dimmer , its orange with a white line going down it, its connitected to the gm wire harness , i dont know what to do with it

im gonna go hook the harness up to cd player and car for now to see if it works , feel free to post if its unused or not

ok i hooked it up and now my cars acting all ****ed up

when i turn it on , both my turn signals are on a little bit and when i turn on headlights the brights are on but when i turn on bright normal lights turn on wtf?!

ok , i played with some of the wires, im sure there all connected right and everything

the alpine dosent come on but the power button , and two other buttons just keep flashing ... and thats it, but also some buttons in my car are flashing with the buttons on the alpine, wtf? im almost 100% sure i'v wired them correctly as there color coded and its written right on the wires "left front positive" to the same "left front positive"

positive dimmer is illumination. when you turn on your headlights, or parking lights, the units controls light up. Your manual will have an actual break out of what the wires from the alpine are for. Some may not be matching.

ps, you may have to ground your HU to the car separately. The harness might not have a ground wire.

ok then what do i do?

edit:: wait i have a positive dimmer AND illumination

comming from the gm harness there is a orange wire illumination, and then there is an orange and white called positive dimmer, i had illumination connected to "dash light (illumination)" on the alpine harness

should i connect both illumination and positive dimmer on the gm side to illumination on the alpine harness?

ok someone told me i should tap the yellow wire and run it to the battery ??? he said all alpines gotta do this, is he right or what?

ok i went out there and held down source button it turned on for like 3 seconds then turned off and my dash lights and speedo dont work now... geez wtf? did i wire something wrong? if i did then it wouldent have turned on though? do i need to upgrade my fuses or something?

You have a control in your vehicle that adjusts the brightness or lack thereof for your dashboard lighting when the headlights are on.

When you still had the OEM radio installed the lights in it were affected by that control.

That's what the positive dimmer wire did for the factory radio - it attenuated the brightness level of the lighting inside the radio.

This particular function isn't applicable to aftermarket head units so just tape up that lead securely so that it doesn't spark somewhere behind your dash when you turn your headlights on and use the other dimmer wire to attach to the illumination lead on your Alpine.
