Does anyone here think Type R's sound good?

They get loud but they sound like **** imo. They sound distorted as *** at higher outputs.

If you really are running a sundown 3500 to two of them, they probably do sound like crap when you turn them up. You either need to add two more of them, or get some subs that will handle the power

I've heard numerous ported, and a few sealed. Sealed they don't sound too bad actually, don't really get all too loud though, due to them being sealed. Ported, meh, don't really dig the sound and I think they fit in with other 5/600 rms subs in the SPL area.

have a buddy who was running a pair of em off a d9 ported. I thought they sounded good. Also did a 149.9

maybe that was the problem. my buddies were tuned in the 40s. mainly a SPL box. but sounded good on NORMAL music... lol

Nothing is for everyone. Alpine is lower end high quality for good prices.

I never minded the way mine sounded, it was ported 2.4 cubes at 32hz, it wasn't the best sub I've ever heard for sure but definetly then alot especially compared to other mainstream subs in the price range. Sounded alot better than kicker cvrs and rockford p3s

I guess its all in what YOU think sounds GOOD. I LOVED MY p3'S and they got plenty loud with excellent quality on rap and heavy metal kick drums. Ive thought about trying a type R but too many people say they sound like butt. But, thats what they say about the p3s also, so I guess you never really know till you try them in your own car. Im also tempted by the cvr's but i have never heard a cvr sound good to me. So to OP , I guess just buy one type R and let us know your experience with it. good luck.
