Porting into the rear deck......pics

I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on porting the subs in the trunk into the rear deck.

For example the US Amps car:

Does this increase the SQ inside the car?

Venting the sub to the rear deck is usually for cars that have tightly sealed trunks. The venting allows the bass to pass through into the cabin while bracing around the the vent so the rear deck doesnt resonant to crap.

With the gains turned down, it would sound awesome.

Oh yeah.

If not, the trunk would just vibrate to crap and you wouldnt hear much bass. The waves fire off the roof and the back winshield, so they load pretty well off that. You could build a vented box and instead of having the port inside, have it on the outside leading to the rear deck.

Another way Ive seen is a sealed box playing through another box that has that vent. If the vent is big enough, it wont necessarily play like a vented, but I hear its basically a 4th order bandpass.

So if you make a ported box and have the same length port inside or outside the box it is not going to affect the tuning because i was thinking about putting it through my rear deck too. But i didn't know how it would affect port calculations.

You will have to recalculate your airspace, since the port wont be inside. Port length may change slighty since the port displacement isnt inside but outside.

Thanks, that i what i needed to know. So i just use some 4" PVC or invest some time and make a square one out of MDF.
