Porting enclosure into cabin?

Hey guys, the ported box I'm looking at getting will be pretty large, and I'm concerned about the box choking off the bass from the cabin with the ports facing backwards... would I possibly get better sound if I faced the ports/subs forward firing directly into the cabin? Thanks

trial and error are ur friend. ull never know unless u try. Some say the waves need to load off of something like the trunk and come back however in my car it's louder with it facing in. however i just put the shyt in my back seat most of the time.

Yeah with my current sealed enclosure it sounds like ish facing toward the cabin, but I think it's like you said the sound resonates off the trunk lid and back into the cabin, strengthening the sound... but ported facing in I would think would dump the sound straight into the cabin, if anyone has any experience with both types of setups please chime in (I don't want to build a box quite so large if it won't work... thanks)

you have to seal the baffle off from the trunk so that you dont have backwaves from the subs bouncing off the trunk and coming back out of phase with the front waves, thats why I'll bet it gets louder when you open your trunk with them facing forward

If I get the ported box and face it backwards, do you know how much clearance around the box I would need so the sound isn't "choked off"? I'm currently looking at about 2.5" per side of clearance.

You intend on keeping your back seats if you point the box forward right?

You may be able to get away with moving the box all the back to the end

of the trunk and face forward. Of course your trunk space is unusable that

way. But if you face forward, and are up against the back seats, and do not

seal it off, you will lose some output. It will still be loud, but it will not sound as

good or loud as it can.

why dont you just vent the rear deck on your caddy, thats the best way....i have an eldog and it has basically the same rear deck as your deville....on lacs like these it really does wonders for the over all sound if you open the deck up some....in fact i just finished building a new deck on mine for 4 6x9's with a large vent in the center....when i get home i will snap a pic for you if ya want..

Yeah man that would be great... You know the back seats are one-piece, so there's no folding them down, but what I did do was accidentally break the top mounting studs when I tried to remove the seats the first time (to put in the 6x9s... they make the rear deck difficult as ish to get to!) But I found out with the studs broken, the seats actually pull forward about 2" and it vents directly from the trunk... BIG difference!

I need to build some sort of spacer tho because when people sit back there it pushes the seat back, closing off the gap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. But yeah if you could take some pictures I would really appreciate it as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

I'm wondering exactly how much space I would need to let the bass thru, you know what I mean?

for me with my caddy it was easier for me to just cut the rear deck out and build a new one....because i needed to install 4 6x9's and a vent back there anyways....but for you if you want to just cut a vent all you need to do is cut a nice rectangle hole in the deck lid and then match that on the cover...but if you dont feel like going that route you could also just pull your seat and cut the backside of the arm rest out...thats really easy and it should improve the sound when the arm rest is done.
