The ports must be the right diameter and length to create the correct amount of air pressure. Theres a lot more to it then simply cutting a hole in the box and putting a piece of pipe in.

I used no box for my previous car..it was free-air... and you meant that a ported sub would be no pressure like a free-air sub... well, no, there's still a little bit of pressure left, I guess...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and just so you know, I don't know if people still sue it, but around '95 or somewhere around there, membranes were popular for people who didn't want to use enclosures... it'd give an even amount of pressure on the cones to mimic a box.. of course, can't be compared to a real box, but it sure made free-air subs sound better...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
