nauc 10+ year member CarAudio.com Veteran 3,665 306 USA Jun 1, 2008 #3 ported boxes usually have a peak in the frequency response, so those notes can be a lot louder, appearing to play deeper but sealed boxes usually play the super low notes louder but the lower the note, the harder it is for humans to hear it. iirc, every time the sound drops an octave (ex. 40hz to 20hz) the sub has to move twice as much to create the same amount of output/dbs
