Port VERY close to hatch door...causing excessive rattling?

I've got 2 1508's, subs and port back, and they're awfully close to my hatch door. When its closed, I'd say the port is only about 1-2 inches away from the door. I listen to a good amount of rock, alternative, etc and every hit there is rattle in the background...it sounds like its the plastic paneling on the hatch door below the glass. Because the port is so close...I'm assuming its that plastic rattling and for just about anything other then lows, I can hear it and its annoying.

Now, I've done a layer of deadening (dynamat xtreme, I know its not everyone's ideal choice but its what I've got) on the hatch door and surrounding hatch area but not anything on the roof. You guys think another layer of deadening throughout would help a decent amount, or do you think its going to be more difficult to tackle due to the port being so close? I'd move it back obviously if I could, but I don't wanna fold my seats down, and between my big battery and the width of the box it takes up the entire width of my hatch so I really can't move it at all. Any suggestions?

move you box so port is about 7 inches from the rear hatch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
No see, that's what I meant in my first post by I can't just move the box back. It literally goes my back seats, my back battery up against the seats and then my box. And right in front of the box is the door. No room forward or backward to move the box

yeah it's definitely too close....... causing the rattling and choking the performance of the port most likely as well..... could you switch the order to SEAT, BOX, BATTERY.... it may not be the most cosmetic but it may give you the space you need....

Well the box is port on the left hand side and both subs on the right...so putting the battery in front would help but I'd have to kinda put the battery in front of the woofers or else the battery would be closing off the port...but then I'd be afraid that if I stopped too fast or something the battery would move back and actually hit the subs...

I'm thinking possibly just flipping the box on its back so its subs and port up? Wouldn't I lose output then too due to the subs facing up?

dunno, didn't know the subs were on the same panel as the port... reading>me... but hey, give it a try..... best thing to do in these situations is experiment.... it could very well sound just as good, maybe even better...... I had the same problem in the van with the Brutus subs before they locked up, had to turn them around facing forward.... lost a little SPL but gained alot of SQ in the sense they blended better and sounded smoother.... not making that mistake this time tho, built the box subs up port back with about 8" between the port and rear hatch....

Why did you design it like that? Obviously your hatch is WAY to close, and is choking that port and probably even acting as a port extension
Build a new box
I didn't build the box, box was designed and built by SPY, though it is my fault for totally not foreseeing how close the port would be to the hatch. I'll try flipping the subs and port up and see how it goes

Well I flipped the box up and instantly noticed a huge change. Much less rattle in the background, bass is significantly clearer. Now I gotta deaden my roof and I think it'll sound even better.
