port size question

I am going to be finishing up my box soon. The box will be 3-4 cubic feet total air volume. Ill check it with packing peanuts later.

The amp I amp running is a Kicker 1200.1 and the subs (read X2) will be Solo baric L5 12" DVC 4ohms. My amp isn't big enough for the L7s. This is going to plenty loud enough any way.

The specs on the subs say 1.75ft-3.25ft cubed maximum enclosure volume(ported). plus the port displacement. 3"X13.25"X14.5"

My question: does that mean 1.75ft-3.25ft each? Or can they share the same volume? Same thing with the port. Is that port size required for each sub? Or is one port that size good for both subs?

Whats the difference running the subs in parallel and series? Is it simply sound quality? or is it for power?

My amp is good to 1ohms (Ill double check).

Sorry but my pics show up as links. Here is a link to my sub box build.

lets say my box ends up being 3' cubed. Thats 1.5' per sub if I split the box. Kicker suggest minimum 1.75', with an almost 2' long port. Which means Ill have to go sealed, right?

But if they share air volume (same box) the port only need to be 14.5" long.

Thats why I asked if I could put them in one box to share air volume.

thoughts?

Ok the subs can share a box, but the enclosure size will have to be doubled. Its best to keep the subs isolated so they don't share airspace from what i've heard though(i've never had them share air space so i can't comment).

series for your subs will put them at 8 ohm each driver, parallel will put you at 2, from there you can series the two 8s to get 16ohm, or parallel to get 4ohm, you can series the 2ohms to get 4 ohm or parallel them to get 1ohm

So you can run the subs at 16,8,4 or 1 ohm unless i screwed something up, its early for me.

Lower ohms give you more distortion (less than you should be able to notice) higher ohm gives you less power.

so my box is too small to port.

But on the + side, its close to maximum size sealed enclosure recommended by kicker. But thats at 500 watts.

The kicker manual shows air volumes that aren't exactly best for your driver. If the TOTAL internal air volume (both subs included) is 3-4 ft^3, it's not going to sound all that great -- the bass will be boomy. Technically, if you wanted to get the best overall sound out of using a sealed enclosure, (with a qtc of .707) you would need nearly 9.67 ft^3 PER sub. That's only one of the subs and because you have two subs, it will need a total of 19.34ft^3... not very space efficient. If I were you I would continue the ported route because IMO ported's have better SQ for the space it takes up, as well as it has more potential to be louder. I can tell you this from experience because I had a 1.5ft^3 sealed enclosure for my 05s12l504 and it would be boomier, couldn't hit lower bass notes well... so I upgraded to a ported box and it sounds soo much better. If I wanted to achieve similar bass handling from the same sub I would have needed 4.3ft^3 airspace instead of the total 3.366ft^3 I had for the ported box, including port and driver displacement.

OK here is my box. It is already built. I know I want the solo barics l5 subs. my box still need a little trimming and some covering. (don't laugh at it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif )

What would be the best route for this sealed or ported? Assuming 3.5' cubic feet, subs volume not subtracted. Moderate-high bass level.....

Its going under the rear seat of my truck.
