port noise... advice?

2.5 cubes tuned to 32 with 29^2 of port....







My port makes a bit of a ruffling noise when i play low tones and such... (moving a lot of air...)

isn't 29^2 enough port area for one little 12?

YES it IS particle board!!! cheaper, this is just a test box... (besides... works well for me....)

Flare the opening of the vent, a 1/2'' round over router bit will do the job nicely.

Also make sure the sub and box are properly sealed, a vented enclosure at tuning is under more pressure than a sealed one at the same frequency.

i wonder if i can just sand down the opening to make it more smooth? i don't own a router...

How low are you playing it? 90 degree corner and rounded ends are a must for ported enclosures.

not too long, 10-15 seconds? i do not believe it is "port noise" from too skinny of a port, just non-rounded edges and particle board?

you can sand the corners round.

sand the opening intoa flare and that should help

No, but it sure doesn't hurt for avoiding port noise. If you take the time to build a nice ported box, might as well add the corner.

cool, i've gotta cruise over to the shop that's building my box cause he doesn't have a stencil for my speakers, i'll be sure to ask him about that

port's horizontal along the bottom of the box, tho, firing toward the rear, i don't know how he'd do a corner, it'd probably be right underneath the subs

You meant a corner in the port? No it does not always need a bend in the port. Only when the box is deeper than the port. Then you make it L shape. I was talking about corner angles. To reduce port noise...

Straight is fine.
