making box out of spec....bad?

I have 2 audiobahn 1200q's that I'm wanting to put into a ported box now that I've recently aquired a proper vehicle. the specs on the sub's say to tun the box to 37hz. at 2.5cf each sub. I think.. here is a link to the specs. http://www.audiobahn.com/Audiobahn06/images/tech/2004/boxParams/AW00Q_box_specs.pdf

I was thinking about using molesters box design 4@35 #2
my.php

and then modifying it to make the port longer to tune to a lower freq. is this a bad idea?.. the reasoning for picking the box is that I don't want it to be over 17" tall 40" wide and 17" long. am I being stupid and is there a better solution?..

I'm starting to have withdraws from lack of bass....

any pointers?

thanks

I would but I don't know the slighest thing about designing a box. that's why I was thinking of doing it this way
if you don't know how to design a box you can't just change port length randomnly; depending upon port area and how much you change it, it could drastically throw off your tuning

i'll help you out... i need to know the driver displacement and your max dimensions... or dimensions that you want... like 40" wide and 16" high but whatever deep, etc.

thank you.. I posted a link in my original post with driver specs I was wanting to go for the everyday bass preformer ported specs. the box can't be more than 40" wide 17" high and 20" deep. I'm wanting it to fire back so I need some port room. against my back hatch.

what would be the best tuning? under 35hz?

heh well you talked me into that.... sounds good. at that height the box should be just below the back seat so the subs themselves shouldn't be in direct line of sight.

if they are, throw a blanket on top... or double baffle the top so that they mount flush... i always keep my 12" covered... ppl are nosey
