Port huff??

I picked up a Fosgate Punch 200 (old school), Fosgate Punch 240, and two Fosgate HE 8" subs recently from a guy for $120, as well as two DSM links (not bad for what I paid). I just built a box and I know it's not exact and don't care a whole lot because I don't plan on keeping these subs, we had some leftover particle board so I slapped a 1.4 cf box together with a 3" round port about 7" deep. It huffs pretty bad, how can I get rid of this?? Add another port, shorten it up, etc. I tried finding some specs on the subs and got the volume size but not port size, my brother had some 3" laying around so I guessed and used that.

FWIW, I just wanted something cheap to start with in my DD for some added bass, I will eventually go with 12's once I sell these so before people bash me for using these low end subs, they're only temporary. But these little things don't do a bad job but I know in the future I'll eventually blow them up if I don't sell them.

Thanks, I'll just add another port, it's just PVC. I know the flared ports are the way to go but I basically only have $20 in the box with subs and all so I'm not going to spend the money for the flared ports when I'm going to get rid of them soon. Thanks again for the quick responses.

You are going to change the tuning unless you extend the first one and make the second one an equal length. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I'm not too worried about the tuning of this particular setup, just threw it in for the time being. The box is only 10" deep and the port is front firing and is 7" so not much to play with there. I'm eventually going to go with two 12" Incriminator Audio's.

why dont you make a nice quality slot ported box out of some .75" mdf (no carpet), that way you can demo them to whoever might buy them. size wise, something that will fit most peoples trunks

a sheet of mdf, is what, $20?

Adding a second 3" port 7" long will make your tuning 54.5hz compared to the 38.5hz it is now (assuming you volume is correct), switching to a 4 would put you at 49hz if you still go 7" long. Pretty sure neither is a good option.... I know you are trying not to spend any money on it, but if you don't want to port noise (and want some additional output) you should just start fresh with a larger port and 3/4 mdf.

I'm guessing I'll get maybe $50 for the subs and box when I go to sell it so I'd rather not spend the money on building a better box. I recently built a home subwoofer with a Exodus Tempest X-2 with MDF and turned it into an end table, something like that I'll take my time and spend some money on (and Holy Crap does that thing hit the low's, tuned to 21 Hz for movies). Not to mention my DD is a Kia.......enough said, need to retire it soon but it's been paid off for quite some time and gets good gas milage.

I'm an old school car stereo guy and in the day was 2nd in line for the car to beat around my area. This was just something to do, I'm currently laid off and in the process of finishing up my 4 year degree so hopefully by Fall that will be reality and get another job either sooner or later and get back into the car stereo game.

But how do you guys calculate the tuning on these boxes??
